Chair of Engineering Design and CAD
Design, simulation, and experimental testing
The Chair of Engineering Design and CAD conducts research on innovative topics in drivetrain technology and mechatronic machine elements, product design, engineering design methodology, simulation, and of course CAD.
The chair is active in both fundamental research and industrial collaborative research, contract research, and knowledge transfer.
The main research areas are:
- Topics related to the finite element method, including simulation based computational approaches, development of finite element software and application specific simulation tools, and multiscale modeling
- Questions related to materials and tribology, including tribologically active thin films, characterization of tribological behavior, and tribological simulations
- Material and process oriented design as well as structural optimization, and cascaded material recycling through sustainable design
Equipment
The Chair of Engineering Design and CAD is equipped with a wide range of facilities as well as laboratory and testing equipment that form the basis of our research activities. These include:
- a fully equipped in house mechanical workshop
- several test benches for clamping systems, couplings, brakes, and engines
- a materials testing and tribology laboratory
- a coating technology facility
