Chair of Ceramic Materials Engineering
High performance ceramics, fibers, coatings and composites
The Chair of Ceramic Materials focuses on application oriented research in the field of ceramic functional materials and, in particular, structural materials. The group has many years of experience in the materials and process engineering development of powder based and precursor ceramics as well as their characterization and testing.
Another key focus of the research is ceramic composite materials technology and all aspects of engineering with this class of materials, including component design, quality assurance, and system integration.
The research groups are interdisciplinary in composition and focus on the results oriented and engineering driven implementation of research findings.
In close cooperation with industry partners, new ceramic materials and processing techniques are developed in modern laboratory and pilot plant facilities, and prototype components are manufactured. Fundamental research is also carried out, for example within the DFG research training group Stable and metastable multiphase systems at high application temperatures, as well as in international collaborations, for example with Brazil on the development of wear resistant and dry self lubricating coatings on sintered steel based on polymer derived ceramics (PDCs).
